The Serbian Athletics Federation is the national governing body for athletics in Serbia, uniting athletic clubs, professional associations, and top athletes. Established on September 5, 1948, in Belgrade, the federation has 108 active member clubs participating in its competition system.
As a member of the Serbian Olympic Committee, Balkan Athletics (ABAF), European Athletics and World Athletics, the federation's mission is to organize national competitions, support athlete development, promote athletics, and represent Serbia internationally. It also focuses on hosting international tournaments, advancing coaching standards, and fostering the sport's growth at all levels.

The Belgrade Marathon, revived in 1988, traces its roots back to a 1910 race from Obrenovac to Belgrade. The modern marathon, first held on May 8, 1988, originally spanned 46.7 km but now adheres to the standard 42.195 km. Despite challenges like the 1999 NATO bombing, the marathon has continued annually and is now a major sporting event in Serbia. Declared an event of special importance by Belgrade in 2003, it is organized with support from the city, military, police, and sponsors. The same organizers also host the Belgrade Race Through History, held at Kalemegdan fortress since 1996.
